A U.S. federal judge has approved Anthropic's $1.5 billion copyright settlement with authors over the use of pirated books to train its Claude AI models. While the court upheld AI training on legally acquired copyrighted material as fair use, it ruled Anthropic violated copyright law by storing millions of pirated books.
