‘Will use weapons never used before’: Iran issues threat as Israel mulls over retaliation

Iran has warned that it will use weapons “never used before” against Israel if it carries out “any adventure”. “(If Israel) seeks adventure, our next response will be immediate, stronger and more extensive,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said while speaking to UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Later, a spokesperson for Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee warned it will not hesitate from using weapons never used before. “We will confront any Israeli aggression and respond to it. We are ready to use weapons that we have not used before. We have plans for all scenarios and we call on the Zionists to act rationally,” Abolfazl Amoui was quoted as saying by Al-Mayadeen News, an Iran-aligned Lebanese news outlet.

Iran clarified it is considering its matter with Israel ‘concluded’ unless Israel decides to commit “another mistake.”

Israel’s warning

Earlier, Israeli war cabinet on Monday (Apr 15) warned that Iran’s aggression over the weekend cannot be taken lightly and a ‘clear, forceful’ reaction is required.

“Israel is considering next steps and the launch of so many missiles and drones to Israeli territory will be answered with a retaliation,” Israel Defence Forces (IDF) chief Herzi Halevisaid Monday.

Will Israel target Iranian nuclear sites?

UN nuclear watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Monday that Iran had closed its nuclear facilities on Sunday (Apr 15) over “security considerations”.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the UN watchdog had removed its inspectors from the Iranian sites “until we see that the situation is completely calm.”

When asked about Israel’s potential attack on Iranian nuclear sites, Grossi said, “We are always concerned about this possibility,” while urging “extreme restraint.”

The watchdog is concerned that Israel might target Iranian nuclear sites but added it will continue its inspection from Tuesday.

However, US officials believe Israel’s response would be limited and the Jewish nation would refrain from launching a full-blown war.

One US official was quoted by NBC News as saying that Israel could launch strikes outside Iran.

“Because the Iranian attack did not result in Israeli deaths or widespread destruction, Israel could respond with one of its less aggressive options – strikes outside Iran,” the official said.
